It was a real pleasure to be part of the cultural night. Nothing tastes better than a mixture of four different kitchens of four different cultures, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Italy and Serbia.
We enjoyed the Serbian presentation that helped us learn about Serbia.
The Italian Tiramisu inspired our tongues in a very tasty way. The Bulgarian Dances brought us on the wild dance flour. Finally, the Italian Limoncello, followed by Rakia made the atmosphere even more enjoyable. The tasty macedonian Ajvar was here to charge our batteries for a new round of dance and fun :)
Seeking for inspiration, the Digitales team decided to visit canyon Matka - one of the most
magnificent regions in Macedonia.
The visit to Matka was a perfect opportunity to let the mind flow and discover the mysterious beauties of the canyon and go for a swim in the Matka lake.
To make the Matka experience even more enjoyable we organized a treasure hunt, ran by our superstar Dzadze and photography by Chuck Borris ;). The participants were more than excited to go over all secret points, discover the hidden treasure and take photos.
The wonderful day at Matka was made even more beautiful with the creative meditation session by the amazing Eli and Jan. All in all, a perfect day full of inspiration for the upcoming work.
Digital storytelling is the practice of using computer based tools to tell stories. As in the traditional story telling, most of the digital stories focus on specific topic and contain a particular point of view. However, as the name implies the DigiTal storytelling usually contains a mix of computer based images, text, recorded audio narration, video clips and/or music. Digital photos stories can vary in length, but usually last between 2 and 10 minutes.
Why Digital Storytelling?
Because we live in a time when technology is part of our everyday life, and computers are basically part of our family. That is why, we need to harness the power and advantages of the technology to tell stories in a more inspiring, powerful and meaningful way. The Digital photo-stories are a perfect tool that offers a unique opportunity to experience both the visual and audio effects of a story. Moreover, they are viral and very easy to share, reach other people and spread a message, which is basically the aim of the DigiTals course - to use Digital photo stories to send out positive messages that challenge stereotypes and inspire positive actions.
Elements of Digital Storytelling
The Digital Storytelling is based on 7 basic elements. Learn more by watching the short video
Everyone has a story. Stories have excised since the very beginnings of Humankind and the ability to communicate. The earliest forms of storytelling were thought to have been primarily oral combined with gestures and expressions. A traditional way of telling a story is thought to be near the fireplace at night.
During our DigiTales course we wanted to simulate a time travel from the oldest storytelling techniques by the fireplace to the latest and modern Digital Storytelling.
That is why we had a session with matches, where each participant was challenged to tell a story under the match light.
We have to confess that we were amazed by the stories we heard. And this was just the beginning for our intercultural story telling journey .
Once upon a time there were more than 30 young people who joined to tell their stories. They all came from different countries, shared different backgrounds, but had one thing in common - They were all young brilliant people, inspired to send out messages for joined Europe and brighter future.
They day they met, they were complete strangers. The day they left, they were good friends looking forward to next meeting. So once again we showed that "A stranger is a friend, you have not met yet" :)
That is how the DigiTales Course started on 12th July 2010 in Skopje, Macedonia with amazing young participants from Bulgaria, Italy, Serbia and Macedonia :)
Welcome to the DigiTales blog. Here you can dive into the world of Digital Storytelling and learn about the "DigiTales-Tell Your Story" Project that is happening in Macedonia, Skopje 12-19th July.
The project is implemented by Cre8ive8 Youth Media Production, in cooperation with our partners from Serbia, Italy and Bulgaria.
The Project aim is to inspire and empower young people to use Digital storytelling as a tool for inducing positive impact, encouraging active citizenship and participation of young people in the public life. The Project brought together more that 30 young people from different backgrounds, who worked together, discussed issues that concern young people from all around Europe, shared experiences and acted like real European citizens.
The final outcomes involved strong friendships, multi-cultural experiences and DigiTal Photo-stories made by each participant.
